Did you know for Maths Methods you’re not only being tested on your maths skills…
You’re also being tested on your CAS calculator skills?
Whether you use the Ti-nspire or Casio ClassPad – you’re expected to know how to use the calculator efficiently.
In fact – you won’t cope with exam 2 if you’re weak using the calculator.
For some reason CAS skills are not emphasised enough.
As a result I see many students fail to establish a balance of calculator and non-calculator skills.
Many students either aren’t aware of the commands found in their calculator that can save them time answering questions…
or they aren’t efficient at using it.
Here’s an example:
The judge command on your Casio ClassPad will save you a lot of time answering functional equations questions found in the multiple choice section of the exams.
Without knowing this command there’s a good chance you’ll waste time trying to figure out the answer or end up guessing it wrong.
If you’re using Ti-nspire do you know the shortcuts to define, derive or integrate functions.
These shortcuts alone can save you time during the exams.
By the way, if you’re interested in becoming proficient using the CAS calculator then join the Maths Methods Club where I show you step by step how to efficiently use the calculator to answer multiple choice and extended response questions.
You can’t survive Methods exam 2 without a CAS. You need to use it. For some exams you’ll be relying so much on your calculator it’s not funny.
Even if you know how to answer some questions by hand, you’ll run out of time if you try.
So spend some time learning how to use your calculator efficiently because this will have a huge impact on your exam 2 performance.
